After last year’s three hurricanes came through Central Florida, we’re no strangers to the devastating effects they can have. We saw firsthand how the various aid agencies were able to make a bad situation better for many people. After seeing the results of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast, we now know we were lucky.
To help, you can donate to the American Red Cross
(or call 1–800–HELPNOW if the site is too busy) to help with
the rescue efforts and care efforts for those affected by Katrina.
Also, you can donate to the Humane Society of the United States Disaster
Relief Fund. The Humane Society is working not only to
rescue abandoned animals but dispose of the dead animals that present
health problems to the rescuers and victims alike.
UPDATE: We've been
seeing reports this afternoon of various scam sites being registered
with "katrina" in the domain name to take advantage of people wishing
to donate. Please DO NOT donate to sites other than those you know and
trust such as those above or those listed on the FEMA site.
