This category contains email notifications sent to our customers and other information regarding the outage at the Adaptive Hosting Solutions offices due to Hurricane Charley. I have reset the posting dates to correspond to the date and time they were sent out to our list server. This post will always have the most recent post date to remain at the top of the category.

For pictures of some of the damage around the Orlando area, please see the Hurricane Charley photo album at my blog's temporary address.

If you have any questions, please contact Chris Scott at info@adaptivehostingsolutions.com

The following is a brief recap of the effects of Hurricane Charley on Adaptive Hosting Solutions:

  • Our office lost power at approximately 9:15 PM ET on Friday, 8/13/04. We shut down all servers at our office to reduce the possibility of data corruption. This affected all web hosting, email hosting, and list hosting ordered through the hostorlando.com site. Services ordered through the adaptivehostingsolutions.com site were not affected.
  • Power was restored to our office approximately 9:30 AM ET on Sunday, 8/15/04. We were able to bring all servers up without any problems. Our Internet connection and phones were still out of service.
  • Internet connectivity was restored approximately 1:15 PM ET on Monday, 8/16/04. At this point, we were back online and all services were working and accessible on the Internet.

Due to the extended downtime, we will be issuing a service credit for those accounts affected. This credit will be made by extending the next renewal date on the account by five days.

Over the past few months, we have been readying our new hosting platforms at an offsite data center so we can being migrating existing accounts to them, and we are now ready to begin migration. If you would like to migrate your account now to take advantage of the reliability of the new servers, please email info@adaptivehostingsolutions.com so we can schedule the migration. We will have a migration schedule in place soon but want to give our customers that need the reliability a chance to migrate as soon as possible.

Our Internet connection and phones are now back in service.  Hopefully, it will be stable but there may be some intermittent instability as repairs are still being made in our area.

You should be able to reach your sites and email now.  If you can not, please try the following in the order listed:

1. Reboot your computer
2. If you have a router/cable modem/firewall, power cycle/reboot it

If you still have problems, please submit an Urgent support request at: http://www.adaptivehostingsolutions.com/support/  Be sure to note your domain name and use a contact email address we can reach you at.

I'd like to thank all of you for your patience, understanding, and concern during this time.  I received some very positive emails and phone calls that made getting through this much easier.

I will be sending out another update later today in case there are any issues that I have missed in our basic testing so far.

At this time, we still do not have phone or Internet connectivity. Local Sprint is working on the issue, however, they do not have an ETA

We received an update from Sprint Data Services after they were updated by
local Sprint. At that time local Sprint was working on restoring approx.
900 data circuits. Unfortunately they didn't have an ETA for our location.

The power to our office has been restored, however, our phones and Internet
connection are down. We placed a call to Sprint Data Services regarding
the Internet and they have contacted local Sprint since the problem is
local.

We do not have an ETA yet but we know from others in the area that local
Sprint is restoring service. We hope to have connectivity soon and will
continue to send updates as well as post them here.

We supposedly now have power at our office.  I'm on my way there to see if that is the case and also if our Internet connection is up.  If we do have power and connectivity, all servers should be back up by noon ET today.

I'll send out another update as soon as I'm onsite and know more.

The Orlando and Winter Park area was a direct hit for the hurricane.  As a result, most of the area is without power, including our office.  We were finally able to get to the office about 11AM ET and everything is intact, but no official estimate of when the power will be restored.  We will be monitoring this to see when it will be safe to turn our servers back on.

In the mean time, if you would like for us to set up your hosting account on our servers in Dallas please reply to this email.  We will set up a new account for you and you will need to change the DNS for your domain, create your email accounts, upload your site, and make changes to your email clients to use the new server (as necessary for your hosting product).

I hope all our Orlando area customers weathered the storm and are now safe.

Our office remains without power and there is a curfew here until 6AM ET. At that time I will attempt to go to our office to see if we have power.  Unfortunately, most of our area is without power and roads are blocked with trees and debris.  Expect an update approx. 8AM ET.

Due to an extended power outage at our office, we have shut down our servers to reduce the chance of data loss.  Once it is safe to go to the office, I will do so to evaluate the situation and will send out an update then.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
