View Article  Horde Temporarily Disabled on Linux Web Hosting Accounts - RESOLVED

Due to a security issue with Horde Webmail which we run on our Linux Hosting server, we have temporarily disabled it. If you log in to webmail for your Linux hosting account you will now have the option of either Squirrelmail or Neomail. Either one will work with your account but are slightly different so you can choose the one you want to use. Note that you will not have access to your Horde address book in either of these other webmail systems.

Please note the URL to webmail has not changed. You can still access it at http://[example.com]/webmail (where [example.com] is replace with your domain name) or http://webmail.adaptivehostingsolutions.com/

We apologize for the inconvenience but due to the severity of this security issue, these steps are needed. We will be upgrading the control panel software Sunday afternoon/evening.

LAST UPDATED: 3/9/08 1:28 PM ET

RESOLVED: 3/11/08 7:45 AM ET. Cpanel has been updated and Horde has been re-enabled.

View Article  Possible Connectivity Problem to Linux Hosting Server from Central Florida RoadRunner Connections - 9/30/07 @ 5:00 PM ET - RESOLVED

We have a few reports of customers on RoadRunner in Central Florida not being able to connect to our Linux Hosting server. We are still trying to get more information on this. It doesn't seem to affect all CFL RR users since I am one and am able to connect normally but it may be dependent on your physical location or your actual ISP on RoadRunner.

We will update this post when we have more information. If you are affected by this, it would help if you could email the results of a ping and a traceroute from your computer to 69.93.171.100 to support@adaptivehostingsolutions.com

UPDATED 8/31/07 @ 7:35 AM ET: We still have reports from three customers on RoadRunner in Central Florida that they can't connect to this server. We have had our datacenter verify that there are no routing problems on our end and we are verifying our server setup didn't change (no changes were made that would cause this). At this time, we think this may be a routing problem with RoadRunner.

UPDATED 8/31/07 @ 8:00 AM ET: We have narrowed this down to a firewall issue. We are trying to track down the exact problem now.

RESOLVED 8/31/07 @ 8:23 AM ET: We have restarted our firewall and have confirmation from one customer that they are now able to access the server. We are still keeping an eye on this to make sure all the blocked connections are able to connect.

View Article  Linux Hosting - Incoming Email Delayed 8/30/07 @ 2:30 PM ET - RESOVLED

We are making some changes to the email setup to help alleviated the delays over the past couple days due to a few very large, distributed spam attacks on some domains hosted on this server. As a result, all incoming email is currently being delayed until these changes are implemented.

At this time, we don't have an ETA on when this will be back to normal but will update this post when we have more information.

RESOLVED 2:53 PM ET: Incoming mail is now working normally. Unfortunately, mail send during the past 40-50 minutes was lost due to a misconfiguration on the server. Mail was supposed to be temporarily rejected so it would be resent by the sending server. Due to this misconfiguration, this did not happen so the mail was accepted by our server but not delivered to the mailbox.

View Article  Linux Hosting Server - Authenticated SMTP Connections Being Rejected - RESOLVED

We made a configuration change to fix a problem for some customers not being able to send mail. Unfortunately, this is temporarily causing all authenticated SMTP connections to fail. We are working with our server administration service to restore the original configuration and should have it back shortly.

This is causing customers that send mail through the Linux Hosting server to not be able to send outgoing mail.

UPDATED 1:05 PM ET: Sorry for the delay on this. We're still waiting for a correct fix from our server management company.

UPDATED 7:05 PM ET: Unfortunately, this has been delayed longer than we would have liked. We are still working with our mgmt. company to restore the original configuration back.

RESOLVED 7:45 PM ET: This has been resolved. I apologize for the delay.

View Article  Linux Hosting Server Reboot Needed - COMPLETED

We are going to be rebooting this server in the next couple minutes to help troubleshoot the high load problem. It should be up in about 7-10 minutes but may still be intermittent until we get to the root of the problem.

View Article  Linux Hosting Server Performance Degraded - RESOLVED

We are currently troubleshooting a high load issue on this server which is causing FTP, email, and web services to be intermittently unavailable. We will update this post when we have more info. This may require a reboot in the next few minutes to sort things out.

UPDATED 4:45 PM ET: We have rebooted this server and our server management company is looking into the cause of the load issues. FTP, email, and web services are still slow and/or intermittent for now.

UPDATED 7:15 PM ET: The cause of the high load was determined to be too many mail connections for invalid users and from spam sources. We've added the Spamhaus Zen blocklist to our email server configuration to block most of these connections and the server has been stable since. We'll be monitoring this to ensure legitimate mail isn't blocked. Once we have determined this will remain in place, we'll send out an update with more details.

View Article  ADAPTIVE01 Linux Hosting Server Listed in the SBL - RESOLVED
UPDATED 5:20 PM ET, 3/27/07: The SBL listing has been removed. Note that some mail servers cache DNSBL lookups so some mail may still be blocked until the cache expires, however, we haven't seen any reports of this happening.

Due to the customer script that was exploited last night and used to send spam through our Linux hosting server, our IP address was listed in the SBL (details). We have requested that our datacenter provider contact Spamhaus to request a delisting since we have terminated the account that was the cause of this. They have responded that they will be contacting Spamhaus for this today.

At this time, we aren't sure how long it will take for this to be processed. Until it is--or the listing automatically expires--mail from hosting accounts on this server sent to recipients that are using the SBL to reject or score mail will have their mail rejected or scored higher for spam characteristics. Note that this only affects outgoing mail sent through our Linux hosting server. If you are on our Windows hosting or use your ISP's mail server, this doesn't affect your mail.

Workarounds
If you have problems getting your mail through to a site using the SBL, you can contact the recipient to have them whitelist either our server at 69.93.171.100 or your email address/domain. Or, you can change your email client to use your ISP's SMTP server for your outgoing mail.

View Article  ADAPTIVE01 Linux Hosting Server Outage - RESOLVED
Our Linux Hosting server is currently experiencing high load and not responding.  Our datacenter provider is rebooting it and we will be working to diagnose and fix the load problem. Until this is resolved, Linux email and web hosting accounts are down.

RESOLVED 12:10 AM ET, 3/26/07: An insecure script on one of our customer's sites was used to send spam and was also tying up resources. We have suspended the account and deleted any remaining spam from our mail queues. Note that due to this, mail delivery from this server to some recipients (mainly large ISP's and mail providers) may be delayed or rejected due to this spam problem.
